A WORLD UNITED 2020

Original artwork to honour the People of the World – “Alone We Can Do So Little. Together We Can Do So Much” Helen Keller

Once again, Paul has felt the need to express himself through his eternal desire to portray the People of the World, showing their individuality, yet, the strength of being together, working towards a solution to win the war on the coronavirus pandemic. A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people. We must honour all people of the world, understand their culture and reach out for everlasting peace. Without an interest in other cultures, we not only become disinterested, but we remain ignorant.

Paul Ygartua’s most renowned mural A WORLD UNITED,  his union of the world with our five races, adorned the walls of the United Nations Pavilion during Expo86 Vancouver, Canada. The World Expos are a time to celebrate who you are and United Nations celebrated the people of the world, what we have in common, what we admire and what we want to learn – promoting our developing relations among nations, and maintaining worldwide peace and security.

A World United 2020 by Paul Ygartua  (60x60in. Acrylic on canvas) depicts our global world in the joining of our races and religions. portraying the strength of our unity and the power of our presence together.

I have always been fascinated by the cultural diversity of our world—it is compelling and intriguing and throughout the years it has inspired and captivated me to create a visual Ethnic Mosaic of the World. The strength and character of an individual has always influenced me and I find this has directed and encouraged me to search for these qualities and therefore find myself drawn to the power of this presence.  I don’t consider myself a portrait artist. I enjoy many different subjects, but I find myself constantly searching for the life behind the face—to create an almost historical expression of that person’s life is the direction that most intrigues me.

The feeling of HOPE is portrayed with the religious icons, the Divine Beings embracing the people of the world. The enlightened Buddha God with vision and light and the strength of the Eagle, a powerful symbol of the Haida Nation, our First People, who respect and believe in the importance of all creatures on earth– it is the balance, with people and nature that must always come first.

Amitabha – represents The Buddha of immeasurable Light and Life   The Eagle  — as a whole signifies focus, strength, peace, leadership and ultimate prestige.

Paul represents the white race with John Lennon and the letters IMAGINE, his song of PEACE that reached all of us worldwide.  His message is important and his wish hopefully one day will be fulfilled. (Paul went to Liverpool Art College, it was his first year and John Lennon’s last year, they would often go down together to the Cavern where John played during lunch hour.)

We must remember and continue to reach out for unity among people and nations– never before, has this been more important.

IMAGINE by John Lennon

“Imagine all the people living life in peace,
You may say I’m a dreamer,
But I’m not the only one,
I hope someday you’ll join us,
And the world will be as one”.
