Paul’s fascination with the big capital city scenes of the world began at an early age. The first time his father returned to his homeland, the Basque Country, Northern Spain in 1949,  when Paul was just four. He left, with his parents, the city of Liverpool, England to Bilbao, Spain on one of the passenger cargo boats that one of his uncles worked on.

Being exposed to the city of Bilbao and watching it change from an industrial port to a beautiful city with history and incredible architecture (which now includes the Guggenheim, designed and created by the Canadian architect, Frank Leary) to the wonderful architecture of Gaudi in Barcelona, the monumental structures in Paris and London, the domed city of Jerusalem,  the famous mosques of Istanbul, the new dynamic cityscape of Shanghai, the Opera House in Sydney, The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Breitscheidplatz (Berlin’s most famous war memorial) to the skyscrapers of New York –all these cities gave Paul inspiration to paint the Cities of the World.

Every great city reveals itself through its architecture and this is the challenge Paul enjoys – to capture the greatness and the uniqueness of the Cities of the World.

The adventure of living and working  in all these WORLD CITIES  and famous RESORT TOWNS– Cannes, Copacabana, Cadaques, Sitges, Gorliz, Waikiki, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, Scottsdale, Arizona, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, and the Greek Islands of Crete and  Corfu, Las Gran Canarias, Las Palmas, Acapulco ,etc– .has always been eventful–being  forced into unique situations and new directions.  It has been a fascinating challenge and an extraordinary opportunity to create in a different environment – stimulating and exhilarating, with new subject matter in a new form, allowing one to venture into new domains.

These chosen cities and resorts, blessed with an array of alluring never-ending subject matter, provides a platform for Paul to create his Tableau of the World. When immersed in foreign lands, it permits one to look further, to delve deeper into your work – an enriching experience that one wants to never end.
