The chess theme has long been an important subject in Paul Ygartua’s work. His chess paintings have been officially recognized and exhibited in international chess clubs and tournaments, including his role as Guest of Honour at the renowned Open International d’Echecs de Menton in France.
A few years ago, Ygartua was contacted by Kuvay Sanli, Deputy President of the Turkish Chess Foundation in Istanbul and a close associate of Garry Kasparov. Having seen the chess works, Sanli requested to include two paintings in his book exploring the relationship between chess and life.
This recognition marked a meaningful moment — a connection between art, strategy, and philosophy. In return, Sanli later contributed an article in YGARTUA book (Book #1), writing about three of the chess paintings under the title:
“Synthesis of the Beginning and the End.”
